"Seniors and Super Seniors World Tournament" here, in Singapore ?

Clockwise from top left: Stefan Heckmanns (GER), Men's 40 World no.7, Sylvie Mattel (FRA), Women's 40 World. No.8,
Alex Swetka (USA), Men's 85 World No.1, Dorothy Matthiessen (USA), Women's 65 World No.1 (photos taken from ITF)
----

It is an age group World Championship, consisting of Seniors, the 35 to 55 and Super Seniors, the 60 to 75 (women) and the 60 to 85 (men).

ah- ah so..old you say.
But, yes, the event do exist, organized by ITF yearly and held in many countries all over the world. Boasting record entries of over 1000 players,
competing both singles and doubles play for the twenty age categories namely 35+, 40+, 45+, 50+, 55+,60+, 65+, 70+, 75+, 80+, 85+.

This year's Senior World Championship was held in April 2005 in Perth, Australia whilst the Super Senior will be held in Antalya Turkey in October 2005.

And if, in the near future Singapore can host such event, won’t it be favorable for HPB healthy lifestyle campaign? As well for SSC's, Sports for life campaign ? Even for Singapore being THE medical hub in Asia Pacific? etc, etc.

Won't it add some healthy sparks to the greying population and a reminder to the young, the hectic and the dynamic side of Singapore …

<>Cheers to our good health and good game !

Book Review: Tennis - Steps

Title: Tennis - Steps to Success (series)
Author: Jim M. Brown
FROM THE BOOK PUBLISHER
Tennis: Steps to Success makes learning the basic skills and strategies of tennis easier than ever! By following the book's learning steps and drills, you can learn at your own pace and develop the fundamentals you need to start playing games right away. The book includes 128 illustrations that show you proper tennis strokes and strategies and 117 drills to help you develop your game. Each drill comes with instructions that explain how to improve your practice and play, including suggestions for either increasing or decreasing the difficulty of the drill according to your ability level.

Comments: We keep borrowing it from the NLB. It is a good book that shows basic skills for ball awareness, groundstrokes, volley, and serve in a step-by-step way progression with drills that increases in difficulty. Beginners will find it useful, and others who want to review the fundamentals. Plenty illustrations (no photos)

Book Review: John McEnroe-You Cannot Be Serious

Title: You Cannot Be Serious
Author: John McEnroe
“John McEnroe, who made it to the Wimbledon semifinals in 1977 at the age of eighteen, has won more tournament titles than any professional ever to play the game.”(Amazon)

Book Description (Amazon):
John McEnroe stunned the tennis elite when he came out of nowhere to make the Wimbledon semifinals at the age of eighteen-and just a few years later, he was ranked number one in the world. You Cannot Be Serious is McEnroe at his most personal, a no-holds-barred examination of Johnny Mac, the kid from Queens, and his "wild ride" through the world of professional tennis at a boom time when players were treated like rock stars. Here he candidly explores the roots of his famous on-court explosions; his ambivalence toward the sport that made him famous; his adventures (and misadventures) on the road; his views of colleagues from Connors to Borg to Lendl; his opinions of contemporary tennis--and his current roles as husband, father, senior tour player, and often-controversial commentator.

Our Reviewer: Pras

Prass’ Comments: “…interesting, eye opener read. His rise to tennis stardom and problems that he faced along the way is clearly highlighted in this book. This book gives me the insight that even the most professional athletes have self-doubts in their own ability. Becoming a number one tennis player has its disadvantages too. This is clearly reflected when John McEnroe became the number one tennis player. He faces a lot of pressure to maintain his number one status as other tennis players are hunting down the same spot. The gap in status between number two to ten in rankings is not as large as number two to one. When you became the number one, you are a star and a cut above the rest.

Inception

For the purpose of identifying our group especially for interclub friendly matches, Pras came with an idea for our tennis club's name. We brainstorm for a few names from Marineside, Lagoonside, LV Open, Sans Friends, San Allies, Green Lagoon, Sunny Lagoon, to Power Tennis ;)).
However, I think the name Eastside suits us the best as we all play mostly in the East side . Sooo, Eastside Tennis Club sounds great ! ...waiting further approval from other members
